The bow gives me a little concern. Those old necks had a habit of being abused by someone trying to adjust them incorrectly. I had to reseat the fretboard on mine. All came out well though.

First thing I'd do would be take the DR's off and put TI's on. Nice bass, but possibly a weak neck.

I thought it was an early hi gain with cover, not a horseshoe. It's hard to make out...
With a Nov 68 jackplate it should be the hi gain. A Nov 68 MG had one that sold last year. However, this is a similar fireglo to Ken's 67 and I would think that it was made and sprayed in the run of the 4000/1S basses that were made that year.
If fitted with hardware at that time, it would have a horseshoe. It does have the later surround though, which leads me to think it is a hi gain.
My Dec 68 has the hi gain and is a very different fireglo.
The owner told me that the neck bow means the action is "about 3/16th" at mid neck, which probably is closer to a 1/4"...
All which means you have to be very careful...
And, I would imagine, there is a long way in regards to the bidding on this one...

my old '68 had a bad bow in the neck when I bought it for $150 ... but a good tech did a truss rod adjustment on it and it held stable for more than 30 years ...
