Heavy strings and a wound G

Who here uses heavy strings, in particular a wound G on their Rickenbacker(s) and what models are they? If I were to use a wound G, would the other strings need to be a particular gauge so that they would all be in "synch"? What is the benefit of a wound G, or rather, what does it add to the overall sound?

Hi, I use heavy strings on my 320 and the wound G strings are easier to tune and stay in tune much better. I've used Pyramids (which are expensive but a beautiful string - colored thread at the ball ends) and I've used the Ric strings, which now don't have any colored thread on the ball ends. I like the Ric strings better, but you can't get them in flat wound style. Ergo, if you don't mind the price and flat wounds, go with the Pyramids...they're great. However, if you're on a budget, and don't really care what the string looks like, go with the Ric. Any other questions? Thanks, AL A.

I use Dean Markley medium guage strings on all of my 6-string electrics, including my '67 Ricky 370. They are .011 through .052 including a .020 wound 3rd. I've used these strings for over 20 years (I know, some wise-a$$ will tell me it's time to change them) and I think they're great and the price is right too.
