The 'new' Fireglo that is being sprayed on Rickenbackers leaving the factory at present may be very similar to the finish that is on this 4003-S....I can't wait to see some the new Fireglo instruments..

that is not a 4003 ... that is a 4000 or a 4001s ... 74 to 84 range ...

Looks like a set neck. Late vintage 4001s?

The stripe gives it away, right Jeff?

Yes, it is nice. But definitely not a 4003S. What's up with the bridge pickup surround? It is too square for a 1981 and the string cutout is too deep.
To me, the fireglos of the early 80's look like they may have been sprayed yellowish before the red was applied.

D'oh! I was too busy looking at the finish to notice the rest of the bass, I was going off the listing title. Yes, a set neck 4001-S and the TRC has been replaced for sure, probably some other stuff too. Still, I think it has a cool look...

I like my neck-through S Ricks. They're my favorites.
No offense to those who have a late 70's S, but somehow they don't look "right" to me. I think its the skunk stripe on the neck and not on the body that bugs me. But to each, his own...it is a nice looking bass. I'm sure not everyone would like all of my Ricks either!
