Truss Rod nut and "washer" on 325v63 and 325v59

I have a 325v59 and a 325v63. On my 325v59 I noticed, while taking some relief out of the neck, that there was no "washer" between the adjusting nut and the wood of the neck. There is one on my 325v63. Will I just end up screwing the adjustment nut down into the wood of the neck? Does the v59 usually come with this little "washer?" I would think so but thought I would ask.

Thank you!

Jim,

Here is a picture of the adjuster on my December 1984 325v59 JG:

As can be seen, there is a "washer" of sorts on this. I think the washer serves to distribute the applied force over a larger area (reduces the force/area on the end of the neck), but that's the opinion of a scientist, not a luthier. Maybe one of our experts can enlighten us on this.
