Nate suggested I start a new thread based on my last post on the thread "Bands With Busy Bass Worth Learning." Here's my post-have at 'er.

"Dane mentions King Crimson-one of my faves-any Rickenbackers played by King Crimson players? Robert Fripp always struck me as the kind of guy who must've played everything at one point or another. Though I know their music well, I don't know an awful lot about the band personally. Is this worthy of another thread or is this a dead-end?

Incidentally, my favourite King Crimson tune is "Cat Food." I also had a friend who would always listen to 21st Century Schizoid Man - cranked up to 11 - before every university exam he wrote. Needless to say, he didn't fare too well in university, he was much too excitable and on edge during tests...."

No Rickenbackers within Crimson. The closest you can get is Peter Giles who used a 4001S on Giles, Giles & Fripp album and on McDonald & Giles album. Peter Giles played on KC's "In The Wake Of Poseidon" but used a Jazz. Lake and Burrell played Jazz Basses too and Wetton used a Precision. Then came Tony Levin and later Trey Gunn, and it's all Music Man's , Chapman Sticks, Warr Guitars and whatnot...

Fripp primaly stuck with his Les Paul Custom, the obligatory Roland Synth guitar in the '80's and I believe he now uses a Fernandes. Adrian Belew might have used a Rickenbacker at some point, at least on his solo albums.

My fav Crimson tune is "One More Red Nightmare".

My brother used to wake his college roommate every morning with the song "Indoor Games" at full volume...try sleeping through that one.

There's an interesting story about the song "Cat Food"...Bruford and Squire went over to Fripp's place and they all 'jammed' on the tune for awhile...(this was the period between Peter Banks and Steve Howe). The story goes that at some point they asked Fripp to join Yes, but he turned them down. Fripp said much later that he couldn't conceive of being in Yes without leading the band...ironically, Bruford claims they were in fact asking him to do just that, but that it hadn't been communicated well enough...

Imagine an alternate reality in which Fripp and Anderson had to go up against each other for control..."Dr. Faustus" vs. "The Little Prince".

Wish I had a recording of that version of "Cat Food"...
