In a thread about a month ago Dane Wilder brought up the new Pg-design.

I agree totally. The curve is kind of "un-harmonic". When did this start? Any opinions?

"The curve is totally 'un-harmonic'". I concur. I believe the 'new' pickguard was introduced circa 1997.

To be perfectly honest I never really noticed a difference until you brought it up.

... no need to buy a replacement, just sand the hump away a little bit.-
Now everybody have a sharp look at the pickguard!
(Might turn out like the scene with Obelix and the nose of the sphinx???)

When did the new design start? I never noticed either! Easy to fix, though, as Peter said.

Doesn't seem like that big of a deal to me....

Yes! It's a big deal!
Look at the part of the pg where the controls are. On the jetglo bass in the illustration, the revealed part of the body between the binding and the pg increases evenly, forming a perfect harmonic shape. On the fireglo the pg has a hump that distorts the curve!

As perfect as I think the contours of Rickenbacker guitars and basses are, I find this really 'disturbing' the picture.
Can't use 'ugly' on a ric.
