Marc...Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are the wings stained or real walnut?

Stained. This is a 1975 4000. Many here objected to the using of an actually decent 4000 for this project, but I just couldn't find more of a beater, and to date, haven't seen one sell for less.

My apologies to the traditionalists. It was just something in me that I had to do.

I like it a lot!. With just one pickup, especially a horseshoe, one tone and volume, dot markers,no binding and mono, this bass is what I'd call a real hot rod. I almost missed the hipshot bridge. More pics when it's done please.
...which reminds me, I picked up the double neck today from the refinisher(Pat Wilkins) and tonight I pick up the loaded and wired pickguard assembly from my luthier(Bruce Johnson). I'll be burnin' the midnight oil assembling it tonight and will post some pics tomorrow before I send it off to Mike Lippe for a fretjob and set-up on the guitar neck.

Well, this is certainly one I would NOT suggest for Jeff Rath's Hall of Shame. Image Nice job!

My take is, as long as it is modified in the spirit of a Rickenbacker (and not adding jazz bass/ precision bass/ whatever pickups) then it is coo.

And it does look cool.
