The Ampeg Fairy, or...Christmas in October?

Got a call from my brother-in-law the other day, he told me he was at a garage sale and found "something I would want." Turns out to be this pristine 1971 Ampeg B-25B, complete with factory dolly, vinyl cover and extension speaker cable. Guy bought it in high school in '76 and kept it in his garage the last 20 years. Only 50-odd watts but it growls like nothing else. A steal at $275, methinks.

I WANT THAT!!! I knew someone in high school that had one, which I used when I played bass in a couple of theatre productions back in those days. Image

Very nice. I think that's a great price. Which reminds me.....I need a bass cabinet soon to go with my amp head.

You know it, and thanks for the kind words. I'm kind of blown away myself, I've never owned an amp in such nice shape before, I'm kind of scared to take it out of the house.

The B-I-L is even a bassist, so it's extra-kind of him to pass it along!

Nice find. Image 50 watts tube? IF it's tube that has enough cutting power (my WAG) of about 200 W SS, since the way a tube amp distorts is so much more musical than transistors.

Thanks much. Sounds GREAT with the bass pictured, everything from super-warm, rounded "thud" to extra-"jank" treble bite: An incredible find. It doesn't strike me as being particularly loud, but I haven't played it in a group situation yet.

Seems like overkill that Ampeg provided it with 2 x 15" (in fact that's the ONLY way to go, as far as I can tell: The speaker cable is hard-wired to the amp and it's an unusual 4-pin XLR-style, not 1/4"). Maybe someone (Bob Young?) can provide us with more info....
