Is this pickup a Rickenfaker, or is it one of the early 70's ones with the real metal pickup cover and the squared off surround?

Clearly a fake. The bobbin top is not shaped correctly and the surround is wrong.

The aluminum base looks correct however.

Yes you can Jared. So when are you going to sell some of that stuff to the rest of us? By the way, how can you guys tell that pickup is a fake? I asked the seller and the cover is indeed chrome plated metal and not plastic.

I just looked at it again and I am not sure what I was seeing before, perhaps the reflections? On the top-side, it is not as far off as I previously thought. The absence of of bobbin screws in the aluminum plate does not jibe with any Rick pickup I have ever seen though.

Er... A legit Rickenbacker treble p.u. surround has no side flanges, only a front and a rear one. Guys, you've not been doing your homework...

I think Jared must live in the rainforest or something...or Seattle.

You are right Sergio. I caught that detail when I first looked at it. That time though, I did not see the cover (for some reason). The reflections on it made it look like pole pieces in a rectangular bobbin. Definately not the case.
