She's very pretty. But she's a 4003.

A May '83 should have a split pickguard(and a Rick neck pickup!)

I really like my 4003S. So I bought another. And then another! Is there any end to this madness?

i thought there were some straggler 4001 basses delving into 82/83?

Definitely. I'd say into as late as 84/85.

Technically, wouldn't a 4001s have a skunk stripe?

Yes, 4001s and 4003s were made simultaneously from '80 to '85 or so. This one is a 4003 because it has no skunk stripe.

It also has a 7-screw tailpiece that did not appear on the 4001.

4003S....Ahhhhhhhh(drool!)

Aye, 4003S... hmm I'm a tad tempted.

They sure are great basses... best of both worlds.

Niiiiiiiice. ;)

How many 3'S do you have, Jeff?

They're quite the odd Ric bass... not much is ever said about them.

I must say I'm starting to fall for mine, big time. Superb player.

I personally prefer them over the 70's 4001S,being neck thru, more rigid neck, etc.

Hey Mark. I have a few:

A Ruby July 1987
A MG Aug 1987
A Turquoise 1994

I like them a lot. You get the comfy contoured body and neck-through construction of the V63, only without the boat-paddle headstock or that ugly, bulky string chastity-belt thing(horseshoe) that so many people here seem to like! *

* I was only joking above. I'm lucky enough to have a V63 and a C64S in my current stable and they are both fine instruments!
