650 Sierra

Hi all,
I just played a new 650 Sierra at Ed Romans Guitars. I don't know why people criticize the neck! Its wider than a 360 but its thin and feels great! And the humbuckers had a clear growl; very nice. I was a bit worried about the neck from previous reviews, but now I'm really looking forward to getting the 650C BBR I have on order!

James, I believe that RIC changed the profile of the back of the necks a while ago. They were thicker, front to back. Maybe JH can enlighten us.

I have no criticisms of the neck on the 650 series at all - my 650D feels great! The only Rick that I have played that feels a bit 'clubby' is the 330, and that's not in any way a criticism.

The 330 necks can be quite different from each other Howard. I assume this to be an 'era' thing. The '90's necks are fantastic & slim...my '03 is close, but I have played some that have been thicker. I wonder if the 650 has been victim of the same fluctuations.

I've always tought that the neck on my 650S was excellent and very easy. I still don't understand why people make a fuss about it? And I sur find it more confortable than a Les Paul!!!

Nice to hear from the other side of the river Dan. Your are right of course, the neck on your 650S is great.

I played a 650 when they were relatively new and it had a neck like a baseball bat. They must have changed at some point. My '04 650C is as slim as any other Rick I have played.

You may well be right, Tony. My '04 330 has a quite different neck to my other 6-stringers. Not significantly deeper, but it feels 'fatter' in my hand. Perhaps more of a 'D' profile than a 'C'.

I ordered a 650 without having the opportunity to play one. I searched this forum over and over and found many negative reviews of the 650 neck. It's a shame the 650 has that reputation with some. I'm glad this post stayed positive on this.

You'll be just fine with it if you've already played one, James. I couldn't be happier with mine since I gave the neck a bit of a tweak and sorted out the action and intonation.
I hope your wait for the BBR isn't too long
