Here is a C64 with high gains. He claims he ordered it from Ric this way. He has obviously changed them out, probably to sell as seperate parts. Unfortunately, he might make money on this. More unfortunate is the fact that he has made a rare jetglo C64 less rare because of the missing horseshoe.

Zero feedbacker, too.

I wouldnt say that. horsehoes are nice, but they sometimes get it the way.

High gain in the neck position and siver top knobs.

He says it was custom ordered like that from RIC, but I can't see them doing that. Should there be any trace of the horseshoe (i.e. visible screw holes) if it was there at one time?

No goodies AND upside-down headstock? Pass.

Mine doesn't have shoes either but I have some for it, they are just two pieces of metal that don't do anything,they do get in the way for me.Hes right the high gain actually does sound better in this bass I don't know about more punch but better sounding.Too many people go ape over fake shoes.

John Hall wrote in his forum (IIRC) that the pickup will still work without the shoes, but not as intended, and will sound different.

Ive taken the shoes off many times without any noticeable difference, these are not magnetized what are they going to do,I suppose they could make some difference in the magnetic field in the new pickup but nothing you can hear.

I will challenge anybody on this one.

I really don't see why the zero feedback thing should be such an issue. I was a zero when I bought my first item...a Rick, funnily enough. It ended up being me who got screwed as the bass never arrived. Everyone has to start somewhere, and some people have little interest in selling small items on ebay. Obviously some zeros may be problematic, but it shouldn't be an automatic assumption. As for the shoes, I prefer em on, but it's obvious from the Forum that we all have different tastes.

The shoes on the reissues are not magnetized,so they don't effect the sound. I do enjoy the look personally.The pickups on the v and c series are different then higains. They are a very hot pickup. I'm sure all of us have an opinion as to whether they favor one or the other.

If you do use magnetized shoes(I've ripped apart my share of steels to get them, much to the dismay of steel fanatics)it is definately a different sound. My favorite pick up is the one I used on my 73 project which was a reissue pickup, with magnetized shoes. If you pick(or use fingers) in front or in back of the shoes, it's two distinctly different sounds. Those at the Mid-Atlantic confluence will get a shot a checking it out in person.

I bet that C64 sounds really, really hot... especially if you reinstate the Toaster.

I've developed a serious fetish for "S" basses in Jetglo, too...

IMO the best, greatest, most fantastic pickup combination Ric have made for bass is the Toaster/Hi-gain. Horseshoes aren't my cup of tea.

Even Chris Squire's 1970 21-fret 4001 and his 4001/8 sounded a heck of a lot better than his RM1999, (which he supposedly admitted)... Coincidence?

Also... you notice he's put, (sorry, the RIC factory, being custom and all..!) put the treble surround on upside down?
