I might be only a shadow,
Might have never written a good tune or a line,
But I'll always be there if you need my help -
So tell me, who am I?

Think positive Roy - it's VERY easy! A small hint: third line of the "lyric" paraphrases one of the songs this artist (member of a band) can be clearly associated with (he sings lead on it). He's quite a famous guy!

Joe Cocker - a shadow?! No Peter unfortunately it isn't him.
One more hint: he's an ex-member of a famous duo.

Not him unfortunately.
Great singer, countertenor. Still active, sometimes plays with his ex-partner-in-crime. An actor.

Sheena: Shadows are cast over all of us, at one time or another. I am not sure of the meaning you are using here.
