Per the Rickenbacker site, the 650C has a hardwood body and neck. Is it walnut?

Nope, Maple I believe. At least mine looks and sounds like maple.

They can be Walnut, which is why the site says only "hardwood", but to my knowledge they've all been Maple so far. That may change in the future, however.

Thanks John. Which type of wood is preferable?

I prefer maple myself. Easier to finish over, less porous.

But we have a few 650C's with walnut bodies in production right now because there was an excess of Dakota bodies laying around. No difference in sound as far as I can tell.

Ben, Will these be painted a solid color?

Ken, I would think solid colors only but I am wondering how Fireglo would look when sprayed over the walnut body. Some of the 650C models (like yours) had walnut wings on the headstock and I thought that looked OK. Might be a new COY. "Firenutglo"?

Seems a shame to hide walnut under solid colours, but given that it's a darker wood, I wonder how effective a 'glo' would be.

I could've sworn that somebody posted a pic of a 650 with a FG over walnut. Or was it a strange dream? Anybody else remember this?

A walnut guitar with a solid color is going to take some grain-filling...

I don't remember FG over walnut... but I do remember a 650 with a rosewood fretboard, which is a rare item.
