The rather nice 4001 with the Semi-half-black trim... I've seen this bad boy before, I remember a post on it agggges ago, too. Like last year.

That's a rare and elegant looking bass. JH said that they did experiments like that. And the starting price isn't outrageous.

Or early 80 is closer I think. Didn“t notice it was a 4001.

Not a bad price, & it looks to be in pretty good shape.
It's truly sad that they don't have a clue about one of the oldest instrument makers in their own country. It would take all of perhaps 2 minutes on the net to research, not to mention the fact that it says "Made in USA" on the TRC!
I also can't understand why so many dealers won't get involved with RIC. The prices are very good, the quality is excellent, & their popularity seems to grow fairly steadily. How could you lose? Once a discerning buyer plays one, he/she's hooked, though not everyone likes 'em (that's just a personal problem IMO).

That is laminated binding. The binding can be bought as a prepared product or done by hand from multiple pieces. I have no idea which method RIC used here. This feature is definately a curiosity. Perhaps Paul Boyer can get a few moments alone with it for his book. I am guessing that there are not many others like it.
