Hey guys, this may seem like a stupid question but what do ya'll think about Gibson's high- output mini pickups (like the ones on the Firebird series)? Are RICs anything like this? Which ones have a more "meaty" sound? They look similar. I was wodering how hard it would be to install one of these on my 370 at the bridge. Do you suggest this?

P.S. Yes, Peter-I have asked a similar question like this before. Sorry for being such a hound.

Gibson has two mini pickups . Dimensionally they are the same size as far as the hole they go into .........but they are not the same .

A Les Paul Deluxe pickup is two coils side by side with a magnet under these coils . The magnet touches a row of polepieces and a bar magnet that sits in the center of the coil on the non adjustable coil . This bar magnet under the coils creates the field of magnetism .

A Firebird pickup is the same two coils , with a different amount of windings , but the real change /difference is the magnet layout .
These pickups have two ALNICO V magnets in vertical position in the center of each coil .The magnets are touching the steel plate and have no adjustable polepieces . They are crisper than the Deluxe pickups . This is from the proximity of the magnets to the strings and from the thin edge of each of these bar magnets .

I have indeed put them in many guitars and in fact I have installed several Firebird pickups in the covers of Button top /High Gain Rick pickups . They do not hum and Rick has a pickup that is similar in size and structure to the LP Dlx pickup ........HHHMMMMM?????
