That's an early '70s cover for sure. As for 4080 covers being different than 4001 ones, sorry, but it's not true.

The one from my '76 4000 looks to be just less than 1/4 inch taller. I always thought it was plastic.

Some wear, rust & tarnish + "very fine" condition?

Sergio, are you sure? All of the 4080's that I have seen, from 75 to 81, all had the lower profile.

Well, it stands to reason to think that 4080 covers = 4001 covers, but maybe I'm wrong. In fact, my 1979 4080 came without a cover, and the (tall) one I replaced the missing one with came from a 4001 bass.

Why would it matter if the new ones are a bit taller? You can adjust the cover's height without lowering the pickup. I like the handrest as low as possible without the strings hitting it (a Fender habit...)

The cover from my 4080 is the same as the ones from my 70's 4001's. The height of the cover did seem to change through the years of production though. I have never tried to work it out but there are at least two types. One being a bit taller than the other.

Something is different on the ones I have.

When I get a minuet, I will post a pic.

This one also looks to be plastic,Jim when you get it try magnet to it,
If its plastic you can pick them up for about 15 dollars,as for re chroming plastic a whole other process then metal.
