Dictators and bands a match from hell

this is a real letter that a wife of a band member sent out to a band ... the names were changed to protect the guilty ... a friend of mine is in this band ... my guess is this band won't exist much longer ...

*********************************

Why am I not being consulted on personnel issues? I am speaking about Wxxx here,(Bxxxx let me read his email). After all this is a business decision and I will be consulted on all business decisions…particularly personnel changes. Period!

Let me give you a little insight here…Wxxx does a hell of lot more than just run sound for Nxxx Sxxxx…he personally goes out and scouts the locations for us at no extra charge!!! He went up to Longmont last week for me to check out the D-Barn…He went when I asked him to, didn’t give any excuse like I’m to busy or it’s too far. Or the big one now…I will have to get and extra cut.

Is Dxxx willing to go when I ask him to at no extra charge? Doesn’t sound like it, by the email I viewed.

And what’s this about getting paid extra for hauling the PA and storing it? I think not…the decision to get the PA and such was I believe Dxxx and Sxxxx's decision…remember no on asked you to! Seems I’ve heard that comment thrown towards me and Bxxxx as to how much money we have put out to float the Nxxxx Sxxxxx boat.

Dxxx in an email a few months ago specifically stated that he wanted Wxxx to run sound on all gigs. Mainly because he had enough to do playing on stage and didn’t want the extra distractions… I’ll be happy to forward it if you all would like as a mind refresher…..

Since I (&Bxxxx) have put up the dinero to promote, market and advertise the band,(whether you have asked me or not) I will have say in personnel issues. After all I am not only the Manager, & Booking Agent…I am also the CFO…that out ranks everyone.

That being said Wxxx stays until some one brings in an adequate replacement. Running sound from the stage looks (and sometimes sounds) unprofessional and since everyone wants to score the big gigs, you need to spend more time looking and sounding professional.

That’s all….

I think I would tell the CFO to FO ...

She sounds like Yoko. Only she could do as good a job breaking up a band.

That is the guy's WIFE! She doesn't play, doesn't sing, doesn't haul gear, doesn't tear down, doesn't practice, she MIGHT be entitled to an agent's share IF she books the gigs and does promo! Since when is the manager the CFO of a band? The band should be able to fire their manager anytime they want!
Too much drama from my past, I guess. NEVER again.

Good one, Jeff! I wonder how much she charges for tickets to her performances!! As soon as the word 'rank' starts to pop up, you're in real trouble, IMO!

CFO = 'chief freakin' obstacle'!!

Id invite her to a band meeting, and when she got there, just point at her an laugh.

Or,

When playing at some rowdy bar on a Saturday night, invite her up on stage to do the entire second set "solo".

Don't even get me going on this topic. Been down this road before. I am going to keep my trap shut as not to offend any of the fine ladies of this board.

Wouldn't matter if the CFO was male or female, Phlemmy..... the attitude is what gets my ginger up!!

Crimeny, where's the fun? What's the point of doing it if it ain't fun?
Except for the drums and the rhythm guitarist's guitar, I own all the equipment in my band (amps, basses, guitars, p.a. and mics). We rehearse at my house on my (electric bill) dime, so to speak. No one kow tows to me, I'm just an equal partner. I like the guys I play with (insert rude joke here) and we go out to clubs together to see other bands. We all have areas of speciality in regards to promo, getting gigs, financing, schmoozing. Bottom line is we all like each other. Never a to-do in the 6 year history of this band. I'd quit a band with issues. I just want to play my guitar and sing my songs.

All I wanna know about this band is: Who ho'din' th' cocaine?? Answer that one and all the other factoids fall into place...

"Y'know what you're problem is...it's y'f**king wife..."

"She's not my f**king wife!"

"Well...wha'evah f**k she is..."

Jerry...you were posting while I was typing...just wanted you to know I wasn't speaking about your band, but the one the thread started with...you know, Nxxx Sxxxx...the one with Bxxxx, Wxxx, Dxxx and Sxxxx...

I must say, though: all that shxx would look good on a marquee...

Dane, didn't mean to imply...was just saying I feel I have a good situation and wouldn't tolerate the weirdness of the band in the topic.

Jerry...I agree completely. The 'CFO' of Nxxx Sxxxx will do well to stay out from under the equipment truck...especially if Wxxx is driving.
