No longer a wannabe

After a few months on the factory waiting list for a lefty and jangling vicariously through this here forum, I am now the proud owner of a 360V64--a target of opportunity on the 'bay. Came via UPS today, and its BEAUTIFUL, but the action is way too low, with a little back bow in the neck (bought it third-hand). I'm a life-long Tele player, and necks that don't bolt on are kind of scary, adjustment-wise. Can anyone recommend a good Ric tech in the Northern Virginia area?Image

Also, is there a good FAQ somewhere in this forum on strings? This came with some relatively fat flatwounds, and I am interested in my options.

Welcome dan! Bring the guitar to MARC and there will be plenty of poeple there who can help you out.

Nicely done Dan. That's a nice looking instrument. Don't worry, the neck issue will get sorted out with a little help from your friends on the forum.

Very nice get, Dan - a lovely example. Congratulations!!

I was s**t scared to touch any of mine when they got a bit out of whack - I've been keeping my friendly neighbourhood luthier in caviar and champagne!

However, I bit the bullet with one that had an underbow and needed some bridge adjustments - no problems! Take it slow and easy with the truss rods and the hardware and it's not that scary after all!

As far as strings are concerned, I use nothing bit Ricks on my Ricks! I've tried others but I just don't get the same result - especially with toasters. My recommendation, but I'm sure there will be others.

Congratulations again. Oh, by the way, here's mine:

Congrats! Nice fireglo. I too would recommend the Rick compression wounds.

Another great tech in Northern VA is Matt Baker at Action Music. He's worked on all my Rics for the past 10 years or so.

Thanks for all the help! The MARC sounds like fun, but I'm heading south to see the folks next weekend. Action Music is just down the road--I've always liked the vibe of that place--sounds like a plan.

Got the chance to plug it in last night--the first chance I've had to actually PLAY a Ric. WOW. CHIME is definitely the word--its practically alive.

String-wise--are the diameters of the compressed RWs pre-or post-"compression"? Are they smooth/flat at that point? Either way, I would think they would be denser than the equivalent round-wound.

Nice Crate V Series in the photo! I have a 15 and love it with my 360 -- a good value for all tube.
