Look at the heel cap in the pictures of this guitar....

I know the 381V69's are not made this way, but was this common on the originals?? It may be special due to its reported connection to the NAMM show....very neat piece....

Thanks for spotting this one John. Here are the photos so that we can discuss this guitar in more detail.

My '69 has the same type of heel:

It's a lot more noticeable on mapleglow though.
The heel on the EBAY guitar looks a bit more square- but I've noticed that all original 381s seem to be pretty unique.
The asking price of the EBAY 381 is $5000.00 at the shop- don't know if they've lowered it any for EBAY. I wouldn't mind another one.

Hi, Tony-- It looks as though on your 381 it's only dark on the edge of the heel cap(or at least it looks it in the photo/link); maybe they just decided to stain the whole piece dark on this Mapleglo guitar...the Ebay guitar looks like it's got the early high-gains too...

The cap is a piece of walnut. Its actually all the same color on my guitar, the photo's just playing with the light.
