Yeah, I think that is one of the permutations of Autumnglo. Niiiiiiiice.

It is glossy so it would be Walnut. Very pretty but too expensive.

A while back, John Hall talked about Autumnglo, and there were maybe three variations, not all of them matt finished. We've seen a couple of glossy Autumnglos lately on eBay, more orangy brown than the "yellow brown" that Walnut seems to be. I know this is confusing, but apparently it ain't as simple as we first thought.

I got this from JH about a year ago on the subject. I hope he does not mind me posting this but...
Walnut and Autumn (except for the very early dark red version) are exact the same dye, variation due only to batch and shading operator. The difference is that Autumn IS a matte finish, whereas Walnut ISN'T.

I was kind of pineing for this one but if you get past the color, it's nothing special. I already have '77 so not interested for that kind of money.

I would call that autumnglo ... but I am not always correct on these issues ...

Too expensive? For the condition it's in and the gorgeous finish and the age, I would say $1100 is fine . . . though I'm not buying it. But still, that's a hell of a lot less than the Emperor or Guitar Center would ask for it. If they put it up, it wouldn't be $1099, it'd be $1999. Or maybe $2999.

It seems a reasonable price to me. It's in good shape & a really nice finish.

It's just the color/condition thing that makes it attractive. I was saying beyond that, it's a run on the mill stock 4001. If it were JG or MG it wouldn't fetch over 800-900. So as a player I'm just not getting used to the over $1G 4001's. Where have all the good deals gone? Also notice no one is fighting over it yet at this opening bid!

I think it's because everyone here wants a 4005, a 4002, or a 4080! Hehehe . . .

where have all the good deals gone?
ebay is now full of old Rics listed for two or three time the retail value of a brand new 4003 ... for my money I'd rather buy the brand new one ... it's a better design, it's brand new, and it has a warranty ... with all of the idiot GC reps telling us to rock out like a motor head with an overpriced bass or the greedy lying emperor who thinks a bass should sell for double its real value because it was photographed with a lawn jockey ... ebay is getting to be a joke ...

The color looks a bit like an early 60's Les Paul "un-burst" - you know, faded cherry sunburst, where almost all the red has gone.
