4001 tuning machines

the ones on my new 4001 are a little rough and sometimes loose/sometimes tight feeling. know of a good remedy?

Are the screws that hold the posts and gears tight and not loosening on the back? You might want to put a very small amount of machine oil on the gear to lube it. Remove the strings and turn the tuners a full rotation when you do that. Other than that I don't think there is any way to "fix" them.

Another solution may be to try 800 mg of Ibuprofen and a quart of mom's chicken soup!

If the tuners are on a 4001, they are the old Klusons which tend to be that way after all of these years. I have a replacement set of the very similar Schaller vintage style tuners that say Rickenbacker on them in excellent condition. I was going to put them on E-bay but I'd rather sell them here if you're interested. They look much nicer and are interchangeable with the original Klusons.
