I was watching one of the VH1 channels and they were showcasing videos from the 70s. One of the ones they showed was "Money Honey" by the Bay City Rollers. Stuart "Woody" Wood was playing a Rick 620 (Burgundy, I believe, or FireGlo).

Amazingly, I was still able to name all of the members of this band that first hit big when I was in Junior High. Silly little boys, but so much fun.

They had a huge following and on paper at least were very successful. No one knows where all the money went. I understand that the former members are all broke. There was a lot of acrimony for each other and finger pointing at their manager if memory serves me correct. They took a lot of ridicule from other musicians but actually they were not all that bad for their day IMO of course.

They claimed that the money lies with Arista & various holding companies. They recorded an album together in 2000 and were trying to set up a tour.

The drummer was arrested for kiddy porn possession a few years ago.

The bass player was a lefty Rick 4001 player.

I do remember that they played a really good version of Rebel, Rebel on one of their television appearances. I think it was on the Howard Cosell variety show. As I recall, they were on the premiere episode

In a related trivia item, the recurring cast of the Howard Cosell Show was known as the "Prime Time Players". In response, the Saturday Night Live cast called themselves the Not-Ready-For-Prime-Time Players. At least that's what I remember through the haze.

Oh, yeah, the video that I saw had the bass player playing a righty Jazz Bass that had been strung left-handed.

Oh and there was plaid everywhere.

Bay City Rollers played Rics. Ugh, that hurts. That's it, I'm switching to PRS.

Noel someone liked them. They sold a lot of records. Mind you so did the Monkees. Yeh, having said that, I see your point.

While they're not exactly something I'd want to listen to as a steady diet, their music did have an upbeat simplicity to it. Rock and Roll Love Letter and Saturday Night were fun.

But, Noel, if you're considering a liquidation, I'd be happy to help out.

Keep in mind that arrested for and convicted of are tow very different things. Admittedly, even being accused of something like that is incredibly serious but if we are to believe in the "innocent until proven guilty" credo, then we have to do so even with the most despicable crimes.

On the other hand, Dane, it was a quite creative response.

He was convicted. His sentence was 300 hours of community service.

I seem to recall that these guys got their name by hurling a dart at a map of the U.S and having it stick in Bay City, Michigan, historic manufacturer of big construction cranes and certainly not a hotbed of plaid-scarf-waving pantywastes...

Dane, did you mean "pantywaists"? Somehow the spelling you used makes me think of something entirely different than the Roller guys.

Yeah, sorry...incorrect lexicon 'fer shure'...I went back and forth on it whilst typing and landed on the wrong side...

The more I consider it, though, the less sense the word makes...panty...waist...pantywaist? I think it's one of those terms that's survived more on the strength of its sound than whatever its meaning might actually be...kind of like 'm**********r'...

Then again, "pantywaste" was a term that I immediately had a meaning for, but I was pretty sure it wasn't the one you had in mind.
