Can anyone recommend someone who can rewind a broken toaster?

My 360/12v64 fell over sideways the other day and now the neck pickup doesn't work. The bridge pickup works fine.

I pulled out the pickup and control panel and there are no obviously broken (or otherwise questionable) connections. So I've got to think that the coil wire broke somehow.

Don't know if this matters at all, but the previous owner "unwound" these '92 toasters to vintage specs, so that might've created a weak point in this one. I'm almost tempted to just buy some new scatterwounds for replacements, but I'd still like to get this one fixed too.

I have a neck pup from a '77 4001 I'd like to get rewound as well. It barely works. There must be a short in the winding somewhere.

Wim - I edited my mistake in the previous post. The neck pickup is the broken one, and the bridge pickup works fine.

I did try to check the resistance of it (both at the pot connections as well as at the back of the pickup itself) and those readings were all over the place on my meter, and it'd never settle down at all.

There are lots of winders out there who could do it for you. I think Sergio does it? I also personally know several winders who could do it. Wolfe from Wolfetone pickups in Seattle. Dave from Stephens Design pickups in Portland Oregon area. Lollar from Lollarguitars in Seattle. I'm sure others like Fralin and TVJones and even Seymour Duncan could do it too.

You should get a steady reading of around 7k, or get a low to open reading with a meter. You may have to unsolder it from the circuit to get an accurate reading. You're checking for resistance (ohms) right?

Set your OHM meter at 10K and check the leads coming out of the back of the pick up, make sure the Vol. Pot is turned up to full out put. It should read 7 to 7.5K OHM's I also rewind pick ups.

My only experience with having Rick PUs rewound was when I sent 3 old 60s toasters, original, but very microphonic, and with awful tone, to Lindy Fralin.I explained to him what kind of tone I hoped for, strings used, amps, etc., and he told me, "I think I know what I can do for ya; after you get them, if they are not quite "it", send 'em back and we can try again.".I got them, and put them on my '67 370 12, and, well, Lindy knows his stuff.As to TV Jones, the man has the Gretsch PU thing down! Don't know if he can rewind Rick PUs, but I had him remagnetize the alnico bars in my old Guild Starfire bass w/the Hagstrom PUs.Next best bass tone in my house, after my '64 P bass.

I didn't know you wind pickups too Dale. Can you do all types and do you scatterwinds also? Would love to have you come down to the weekly blues jam I go to every wednesday night at Duff's Garage (7th and market in SE)and hear some of your pickups. Ron Cascisa knows where it is and how good the playing is down there. Let me know if you want more info about the jam and I can give you details.

TV Jones rewound the original bridge pickup that was bad in my '73 4001 I used to have, and absolutely nailed it. I wanted to keep it but the buyer wanted it as a condition of the sale, so its gone. He also rewound some old Harmony pickups for me that I have in a pickup test guitar and they just scream! He's very good at what he does, and is a great guy too. Theres lots around nowadays like that.

I'm afraid my currently very busy schedule won't allow me to do any pickup rewind jobs in the next few months. Sorry.

Sergio: Does this mean you won't be unable to unwind as often as you like?
