I know the Ric strings are compressed round wounds. Has anyone tried other compressed round wounds like DR Pure Blues?

Also, are the Ric strings pure nickel or are they nickel-plated steel?

Nickel plated steel. In anything other than a flatwound, pure nickel will have a decidely poorer magnetic to mass coefficient.
