Has anyone put a high gain in their 4001 / 4003? I'm curious as to the sound difference with the horseshoe pickup.

He's special.
Did he mean a high gain and a horseshoe?

Sorry, wrong wording, I meant the pups that are in the 4004 series.

HB1s?
I think they sound, er... ****, to be honest. Very listless and uncharacteristic. Similar in sound to an Aria or something, you know, that bog-standard "dumm", say John Taylor, Duran Duran. Very boomy though, but nowhere near "wall-of-mud" a la EB3.
I had a Cii for a while, and the alterior emphasis on fat bottom end threw me. I liked the change at first, but after a while, I just hated it.
It was a Cheyenne II however, maybe the walnut had something to do with it. Maybe they'd sound better on an all-Maple body.
