I would be interested in someone discussing the difference in tonality between the Baxandall and the standard tone stack used by manuafacturers such as Fender, Vox and Marshall.

After some browsing, I find this link to be the most helpful that I have read thus far.

Ampeg, Silvertone, and Magnatone used the Baxandall stack in most of their amps. I like it myself...it gives you a lot of flexibility. It does sound different, with a little more midrange perhaps than the FMV stack, but they do cover a lot of common ground too. That link is very good. The Baxandall stack doesn't have as much gain loss as the FMV stack, so the amp will be a little louder if a Baxadall stack is used than if the FMV stack is used.

Its certainly worth a try Peter. I modded my brother's 60's Silvertone 1484, which used the Baxandall stack in both channels. I left the baxandall stack in channel 2, and raised the gain from stock and made it more like a Deluxe Reverb, and it sounds fine there. I still think if you reduced the voltages on the normal channel's preamp tubes down to 160v-170v rather than the 220v-240v it probably is now, that would get you most of where you want to go with it. It would brown it up a lot more and cause it to breakup more like a Deluxe Reverb. There is a larger parts count with the Baxandall tone stack than with the FMV stack, so you'll have to figure out where to put the parts.
