Another Tone thread....Sheesh!

I did something at practice the other night and I would like some feedback.

I have an Ampeg B210SP set to SVT. I have the tones controls all straight up. We did a song that had a little of that Norman Greenbaum guitar sound, but our guitars don't have the effects. I switched to bridge only, cranked the tone all the way down, vol all the way up, and cranked the mid range on the amp to max. A very interesting sound. I would like to explore it more, maybe distortion would add?

Basically, it would be awesome if someone would take their normal tone, switch to what I did and let me know what happened to their sound. Jeffrey would be a good candidate. I think Jeff Rath already has more of that sound than I am looking for. It's not something for every song, but it is cool that I can change the tone that much!

FYI, the bass is an 87 4003.

I'll give it a shot after the kids hit the bed Charly... but like Jeff I'm using a POD so the results might not quite be the same.

I will report later!

Oh... and I have a '77 4001 with a bypassed cap, might not be totally the same, but sounds like fun either way!

I use a tone like that from to time. Without distortion, it is very similar to the "My Sharona" tone. It has a lot of midrangey bite that brings out the Rick growl. With a little overdrive mixed in, it does sound a bit like the Greenbaum tone from "Spirit In The Sky". I just tried it with my '80 4001 and I too use a Bass Pod.

I'm gonna trade my Guitar Pod for a bass one I think.

I have not mastered my Pod yet but I like it so far. It's a great tool.

I played the whole service with that tone and I was punching through like crazy. I haven't spent time listening to the tones of guys on the forum, but later today, I'm gonna investigate. I really like that massive midrange without the overtones of roundwounds!
