Hi Everyone,
Im definitely a Ric newbie so please be patient with me.In the pictures of the Ric o Sound kit i see two cords one silver and one black.Which one plugs into the bass? I hope it's not the ugly silver one and if so is it permanenty attached to the "box"? or can it be removed like a standard 1/4 guitar cord? I ask this because i am thinking about getting a 4003 bass. Thanks,
Brent

Brent-- Save yourself some money and go to Radio Shack. There are some posts elsewhere in the forum (I forget where, exactly) that tell you what you need. I'm sure others here know or remember and can post the necessary items. Every bit as workable as the Ric-O-Sound kit, and less expensive.

The ROS box is supposed to enhance the stereo output of a 4001/4003 bass. As most people cannot afford the best all at once, then yes, a stereo "Y" cable will do. Mr. Hall did email me once about this topic, and he gave me some of the specifics of what goes into making an ROS box, making it more than just a "stereo splitter" box. So, if you have extra money to spend, try one out. Does any have any comments on the tone difference between the ROS box and Y cable?

I bought a ROS kit a couple of years ago direct from RIC. Although the image at the RIC Website shows a silver/gray cable (cord) connected to the ROS box, both cables in the kit I received were black. Perhaps you could request an "all black" kit?

Hi Andrew,
Are both cables detachable? or is one permanently attached to the "box"? That is really my only concern.

Although I never had a look inside, I believe removing the cable from the ROS box would require a soldering gun. The other end of this cable has a stereo plug, not mono; which is compatible with the Rick-O-Sound stereo jack on your bass.

The other cable that is included in the ROS kit is a regular cable (of good quality, mind you) with mono plugs on either end. It is assumed you already have 1 "mono" cable that you've been using to plug into an amp, which would now connect from one of the outlet plugs of the ROS box to one of your amps. The extra cable in the ROS kit is provided to connect the second outlet plug of the ROS box to your second amp.
