Saw DFA1979 on thursday and friday in montreal and toronto opening for Nine Inch Nails (along with Queens of the Stone Age).

For those not in the know, 1979 is a drummer (who sings vocals) and bassist (who plays the odd keys).

The bassist of course uses a white ric 4003 with black trim. He has a real sweet overdriven tone and plays his bass more like a guitar than anything. Anyway, I really enjoyed seeing them both times and I must say that the bass player made me look at my rics in a different way.

They were on Conan O'Brien about 8 months ago. Half way through the song Max Weinberg jumped on the drum kit and the drummer got up just to sing. Very interesting stuff. There was also an article on them in Bass Player about 6 months or so ago.

Sounds a lot like the band Clatter. Haven't heard much about them recently but the bassist plays a 4001/3 JG.

I'm learning some of their songs and am putting my pick and boss overdrive pedal to good use... until now I thought both would be wasted money.
