I am an absolute Rickenbacker nut but was wondwring what the choice is for wine among the forum members? Mine is obviously Californian red. any takers?

a good local wine here in Michigan is Cherry Wine ... it is a little on the sweet side though ...

What is a Syrah? I have heard it mentioned twice this week.

For a start......

Any one of a few hundred Australian shiraz or cabernet shiraz wines.

Pretty much anything from Penfolds.

A good or better quality *genuine* Chianti.

A nice dry Chenin Blanc or Sauvignon Blanc (although I prefer reds!)

And then there's..........

I like several different dry wines from Califormia and Italy.
I don't like merlot or chardonnay, I think they taste like turpentine.
I don't drink sweet wines, but I do cook with with them, usually marsala, sometimes sauterne or sherry.

I like several beers, nothing bitter. My favorites are dark beers with a hearty taste, like Guinness Stout. There's a guy at the Trader Joes's where I shop who keeps telling me the best beers are from Belgium, I'll have to try a couple of those soon. I'll wait for a special occasion, they cost alot more than most beers.

Spaten and PBR. no wine for me unless someone else is buying.

Macallan 18 year old scotch is actually the drink by which all others are measured.

considering I've only had a limited amount of alcohol in my life (mostly when I was in Spain, where it's really customary to have alcohol at dinner), I must say that, so far, I really despise the taste of alcohol. Not even the beverage itself, but the alcohol in it. Like, if I could have wine, but with no alcohol in it, I would drink it all day.

That being said, the only alcoholic beverage I ever actually liked drinking was this great sangria when I was at a really nice tapas bar in Cordoba. It had cinnamon sticks soaking in it. It was quite good.

If you want a great Belgian beer, Joey, see if you can get hold of some Chimay (red, white or blue label - they're all good). It's made by monks who really know how to brew!!
