The two hour television special of the Paul McCartney 2002 Tour shown on ABC tonight was outstanding. I say this even though he did not use a Rickenbacker bass. I really enjoyed the acoustic work on Blackbird and Here Today.

Peter, it WAS a marvelous concert...I really enjoyed it. Some of the tunes brought tears to my eyes.....I guess I have finally accepted that I am getting old....uggg
I was hoping they would use a RIC 12 but no luck.

I watched the show on CBC yesterday and to my surprise I didn't see a Ric at all. More surprising was to see him play the whole show with his Hofner???!!! I tought he said it was always out of tune and that he couldn't stand it?!
But it's always a thrill to see him rock like that even at 60. Wish I was there! Dan

Old habits die hard I guess Dan. It was great to see him do some of the early Beatles' tunes on the Hofner though. I understand that a Rickenbacker was there as a backup.

The Rickenbacker was there as a back up, just not pictured. However, a re-issue Hofner Cavern bass was pictured behind John Hammel while he was on camera.

Dannyboy,

He has toured and recorded almost exclusively with his Hofner for the past 10 years. He has also used his WAL 5 string. He seldom uses his RIC. He did, however, use the prototype 4001C64S on the Driving Rain album.
