5th knob on basses.
As we know, all the 4080, and the GOOD 4005’s have the 5th knob, (Just kidding John Wi. and Jeff).
I was curious how other forum members use the 5th knob.
When I play live, I turn it to the full bass sound. What do you guys do???

I use mine to back off the neck pup slightly for that growl.
Turn the rest "to eleven"

Ditto with Kevin and Francesco.
Sometimes full on bass, though.......

What is it even? At 1st i just figured it was a pan pot(sp) rather then a 3way switch... but You still have the pickup switch. So whats the 5th one do?

When I have the other 4 "regular" knobs full on, turning the 5th knob one way can make it a very full bass sound, turning it the other way will make it more bright sounding or tinny....

What it is really is a second neck pickup volume control without the third lug grounded like a normal volume control would be that is in series with the normal bass volume control. Not only that, it is wired up backwards from the way a normal volume control would be, so when you "turn it up" the neck pickup get quieter. Got that? So all you're doing is lowering the volume of the neck pickup in relation to the bridge pickup. Kind of redundant, plus you have extra series resistance on the neck pickup.

Reminds me of a cartoon I saw in a blacksmith shop during my youth. A small girl and boy had the front of their diapers pulled out and were looking down the front. The caption read:"There's a difference in welding, too, you know!"

I thought the girl says; "I know you got one, but with MINE, I can get as many of those as I want..."
