A couple of days with the 4005 now.

My true evaluation is that the 4005 is a great bass.
Its light, sound,it has much wider tonal possibility's than I ever thought ,it smokes a 4001, 4003 of any year hands down !

I now know why JPS has toasters in a # of his basses.

I can get bass that rattles the windows and treble bite that hurts my ears with endless sustain, the neck is slim and fast being a set neck you can really get the action low without buzz.

My only gripe right NOW its hard to get used to if your a finger picker cause your so far off the top[deck]if you rest your thumb on the top your fingers are stretching to pluck the strings. If McCartney had grabbed one of these instead of the damn Hofner it would have been a match made in heaven.
overall rating a perfect 10

Yeah, but how do you REALLY feel about it, Ken? lol!!

You're gonna get slammed for the 4001/4003 comment, bro.....but I know how you feel. It definitely has its merits over other basses. Why don't you get a reading on the toasters for us? I'd be interested in hearing where it stacks up against other '67 toasters in power....

Smokes a 4001/4003 eh? Too bad they're so expensive! One of those would prolly be to big on me.

Those toasters are pretty good then? I like the look.. anyone have any sound clips of a bass with dual toasters?

I thought that comment would rattle some cages, but its true my 4005 I can get a pbass sound out of it a growly Ric sound a lot more variation then a 4001-4003.

I find my 4005WB quite versatile in the sound department. With just the neck toaster it can get very deep, unlike the 4001/2/3 variety, and the bridge toaster is brighter but along with a bit of the neck PU and the tone control rolled off a bit I can get a nice burbly Jacoish tone. This is with Chromes mind you. When I used to use XLs on it the tone we all crave from our Ricks is there in all it's Squire like glory.

I'm glad to see at least one other among us does realize the true potential of these great hollowbody basses!

Ive heard so much about how they sound like this or that, they don't have any sustain....They sound however you want them too,and sustain is all day long ,these things resonate like a fine Strativarious.

If I could only play the damn thing.

Obviously you can play it well enough to discern that your 4005 is one superb bass!

Hahaha... ken watch out about the 4001/4003 comment or I will bring up the topic of looks....

Glad you like it... hollow body is another world. PLay that bass like crazy... it deserves it!
