Wiring and switching on 325/355

Hi all,
Played a 'beatles' 325c58 yesterday - while I won't be buying it (neck too small for my meaty paws) I'm curious as to the settings on this 3 p/up black beauty.

What is the 3-way selector switch selecting?
Is it one p/up in each position?
Or neck/middle - middle - bridge/middle?
Or even neck/middle - all 3 pups - bridge/middle?

And what precisely does the fifth knob do? On my 660/12TP it changes the balance betwee neck and bridge p/ups (I think). What does it do on the 3 p/up models?

Regards, Lee Kear

3 way switch on a 3 PU Rick works like this;
Down = bridge only
Middle = all 3 on
Up= neck and middle

the 5th knob on so equipped Ricks is essentially a
redundant volume for the neck PU.It is most useable on a Rick when used through 2 amps,i.e; using the Rick-o-Sound jack, where it acts as a "blend" control when both PUs are on.

Thanks Don, much appreciated. So when the switch is in the 'up' position, can the fifth knob turn down the neck p/up and effectively give you 'just' the middle p/up?

No, with stock wiring, you can Never get Just the center PU.If you look in the Ask a Rick Luthier
section, and go to Archives, somewhere there is a thread that details how to convert the wiring so that the 4 big knobs are just for bridge and neck, and then rewiring so that the small knob becomes a volume for the center PU.If you do this conversion, which is pretty simple once you have the diagram/explanation, there is no combination you can't get, even any one PU at a time.
