Post by cheyenne »

Does anyone know what these sound like?? Lakland is offering them on a new model "The Decade"

http://www.lakland.com/basses/decade.htm

heres the link to just the pickups:

Looks to be a unique and "different" kinda bass.

I hear nothing but great things about Darkstars. Supposed to have great mids. Laklands have always intrigued me as well. I kinda dig the Decade bass.

The Decade bass reminds me of an old Guild model.
The JETGLO finish name should be officially changed to JETGLO ROCKS! :-)

Funny what you say about "great mids", Chris, because Hamond claims that his design de-emphasizes the mids!

They look like they are beautifully crafted and certainly sound good, judging from the clips.

Lakland makes some fine basses. I have three of their U.S. built models (four string, five string and four string hollowbody), and they're all outstanding! Their hollowbody uses Bartolini humbuckers and it has a great thick sound. The Decade looks interesting, especially with the Darkstars - anyone know the street price?

I dunno. I may have mis-quoted something. I just started reading about those pickups on The Dudepit. I don't know what the hell I'm talking about! They sure look cool though...

Isn't there a pic of a 4004L with the DS pickups on the dudepit? That was really cool looking.

When I got my 68 it had one of those guild pups in the neck position. It sounded great with the Ric pup. That's tempting to slap one into my Ric again...

Can anyone point me to the pic of the 4004 with Darkstars?

I'm not a big fan of the look....too much chrome trim on the p/u's for my tastes.

I actually like the look of the Darkstars in the Laredo. I think they really set off the Jetglo finish. The non-burst Laredos have a lot of real estate, and I think the shape and look of the pick-ups really complement them well. I think they'd also look great in a Midnight Blue model.

As for a quote on the Decade, I was told something like $3400 Cdn. That was for a four string active bass. I thought that was an outrageous price, so I didn't buy it. In fact, I've never even considered buying a Lakland bass since receiving that quote. It completely turned me off of them.
