Can't adjust my truss rods!! ADVICE NEEDED

I'm pretty happy with my 67 4005 now that I've got all of the wiring back to specs (it had barts at one point before I rescued it)...However, I'd like to tweek the rods a bit but I cannot get my 1/4" driver to fit on the nut and I've also tried to get a tiny 1/4" wrench to get them moving but I can't get a starting point....it seems to me that the rods are bent slightly down, making it impossible for the 1/4" driver to fit.ie: there's wood in the way under the nuts.

I really don't want to gouge or dig out any wood....my next attempt would be to grind down the wrench or driver a bit on one side(that may or may not work)....has anyone else had this problem and if so how did you solve it? I'm afraid to try and bend the rods up...but if the ground down wrench doesn't work that might be my next option...any suggestions? thanks, David

Bend them up with a flat blade screw driver but first clamp the neck between the 1st fret and the nut, carful not to dent the wood with the clamp. use wood blocks between.

You need to put a clamp on the neck just between the nut and the first fret and then gently pry up the rods to make room for the wrench. You won't hurt anthing as long as the neck is clamped to prevent the fingerboard from popping off. Search the forum for lots more info on this, most likely you will need to remove the rods and do minor work on them, but it is not hard to do.

Jeff, that's not what you told me. You said ship the bass to you, and you'd return it just prior to the next millenium.

So another 995 years I wait, but I expect a straight neck and low action on that thing...
