it was actually weird mailing it out to RIC knowing that I'll never get it back if I decided to restore my 4003 back to original.

So did you send one to RIC that had "model 4003" printed on it? Those are rare!

A little cardboard and some Sharpees and you would'a been all set.

Ted Staberow posts:
Why do people do that?

Because most people are not used to the way Ricks work, inside and out. The guitarist I play with is a great tech, but when I asked him to put new strings on the 4001 he lost it...had to wait for me to get to his house (our rehearsal studio) to assure him that it was "backward"...

Actually, I never really gave the Rick tuners much though, although I knew they were different behaving than a P or J bass. It really confused poor Joe! Image I guess I just dealt with it...

hehe....reminds me of my softball glove, all those strings hanging all over the place...

But Fenders have similar patent heads. They are larger but have the same hole drilled in the center for the end of the string.

"Why do people do that?"

...because some people are boneheads.

I never payed much attention to the tuners. Are they really that different from other basses?
