Jim-- If you shop very carefully, you might be able to get one for around $1,000 or maybe a little more. Maybe even a little less. I recommend you check with Washington Music Center in Wheaton, Maryland (www.wmcworld.com/), or Guitar Center in Atlanta. These 2 places almost always have highly competitive prices on Ric instruments.

$950 to $1100 retail depending on the market conditions. More for a rare finish.

I agree with everything Paul said about North Coast Music. I recently got a RIC 340 from Gary and have also ordered Hofner parts from NCM. He is the best!

My 4003 came from the local Guitar Center here in Massachusetts but only because I hadn't discovered North Coast yet.

Last month I purchased a gorgeous turquoise 4003 from Musician's Friend for $985.99, which included a case and shipping. They were actually matching a price from Music 123 who didn't have the bass in stock.

As it turns out the action of that particular instrument couldn't be adjusted due to defective truss rods (I was told); Musician's Friend quickly replaced it with another 4003.

A word of caution: Ric warranties start on the date of manufacture, so if your new baby has been sitting in a warehouse for an extended period of time you could lose some of your warranty coverage. The first Ric described above was manufactured in April of 2001: I purchased it in November of 2002, which meant that my finish warranty had expired before I purchased the instrument. It might be a good idea to ask before you buy.

Also, Dave's Guitar Shop http://www.davesguitar.com/ in LaCrosse,WI and Rhoads Music http://members.aol.com/rhoadsmusi/store.html in Elizabethtown, PA will be $1000. or a little less. I've bought from both companiess in the past and highly recommend both.

There's nothing on the website that I see about Rickenbacker, but they are a dealer. They normally keep only one or two 4003's in stock, but they can always order you one. I think they are about $1060 with the case, and $959 without. It's been a while since I stopped in.
