Trying to keep things interesting,it seemed like a good deal.A little more then what Marc, paid.And Marc the early ones came both ways with silver or black my 88v63 has a black case also

The earlier ones like that came with the correct bridge pickup surround. Later ones were wrong. For that reason alone, I would only want an early one.

Don't the earliest ones also have a more authentic- period (long) headstock? It seems like RIC switched to the new-style wide headstock on the CS at some point, same style as on the current 4003's. The headstock on Squire's original workhorse bass is noticably longer and thinner in width than the later CS models.
