So Jeff, whats the word on the bridge pickup surround from Pickguardian?

I didn't think I would like it ... but it is growing on me ... the black and clear plastic on the jetglo is nice looking ... there is a down side ... it decreases the travel distance of the pickup ... to fix this I put two metal washers between the magnet and the plastic base it is screwed into ... this raised the pickup up about 1/16" which seems to be enough ... also it has a black pickguard made by pickguardian that is nice workmanship ...

Tony makes great pickguards.
Bye the way, I forgot to mention that you have a great looking bass there.

Damn, this is the most beautiful Ric i've seen.
I hope 2006 will bring a Ric just like this one.
Thanks for the inspiration Jeff!

Thanks ... the bass belongs to Eric Seidman ... he put the new pickguard and pickup surround on it ... I did the 4-2-5 conversion ...

If I ever feel the need to buy another five-string (which probably won't happen any time soon), I'll be sure to buy a used 4-string 4003 and have you fix it up, Jeff. Those things must be amazing to play.

I just got an e-mail from Eric ...
he can't figure out how I got the action so low ...
that is my secret trick ...
ok ... I cut the nut lower ... when a Ric comes from the factory the nut is a little high ... they are a little conservative ... I get a little more aggressive and try to cut the nut to a height just a little higher than a zero fret ... this lowers the action for the whole neck ...

I can't tell you what a great job Jeff did on this bass! Truly a craftsman. It plays better as a 4-2-5 then it did in it's original form.
Mr. Hall should consider utilizing Jeff's skills to contribute to their products vs. taking a some what hostile position!
Sent a CD of bass pics too. How cool is that?
