I'm no expert but it looks real to me. It has all the same parts as my '81 down to the electronics, pots, caps, wiring. Tuners are the same. Pending a good look at the jackplate, I'd say it's real and some joker put new plastic on it.

That appears to be real. The guard and TRC are not but the rest looks ok. The wire harness looks genuine as do the bridge, surround and wood work.

It's got dual trussrods. It's real. Just missing the TRC.

It has the jack plate with the serial number. I think it's real... (edit, not the Univox one)

It yellowed just like mine: darker under the pickguard.
Looks like extra routing under the neck pup, though.

When did RIC start routing the groove for the neck PU lead instead of drilling a series of holes? My 77 has the series of holes and my 85 has a route; this 78 has what looks like a routing to me.

It must have been around '78 or '79. My '80 has a smooth route like that too.

Oops! My bad. I glanced at this one noticed a few oddities when comparing with my own 70's 4001s, and jumped to the conclusion that it was a faker with a bunch of real RIC parts bolted on. I thought that:
1)The inlays looked too sharp at the corners--but maybe its just that the strings are covering the corners and messin'with my mind.
2)I noticed the fake TRC and pickguard.
3)I noticed the groove for the neck pickup wire--(I'm looking at my March 1980 4001 right now and it has that groove drilled, not routed as do my '76,'77, and '79)--but maybe that's just one of those RIC oddities that we've come to know and love!
One more goofy thing about this auction...when I go to click on the LARGER PICTURE to zoom in I'm taken to photos of a different white 4001 and a different auction.

It's interesting. The Univox ad does not mention Rickenbacker at all. I wonder if this still violates The counterfit policy?
The white bass is ugly without the neck pickup.
