I see a fair amount of discussion and/or activity (ebay and other used Ric sites) related to the 650 Dakota, less for the 650 Atlantis (now discontinued, I understand), but very little if any for the 650 Colorado. Why do you suppose this is?
How do the various 650's compare? Does anyone have any first-hand experience with all 3? I really like the "look" of the 650 C, but why is there so little ('net) activity about it?

I have not played a C (which is technically the same as an A) but I believe that in most cases people arent willing to spend more for the same guitar DvsC. The C costs more do to the finish, and the D has a walnut body which I prefer the sound of over a Maple body. Generally walnut gets you a warmer sound and maple gets you a brighter sound.
there are also theorys as to paint hindering body resonance.
Im not sure I agree with them though.
I bet either one you get you would love...
Main reason I went for a D is because I beat myguitars and I decided I wasnt allowed to get paint on my next good guitar. I get a scratch I sand it out - no big deal...

Oh yeah C necks are finished and I prefer a naked neck.

One thing to note, Paul, is that the 650C is now available in finishes other than jetglo. I've seen one Burgundy and one Mapleglo, so far. By offering this choice on the 650C, the 650A essentially became redundant...

I found someone opnline that acutually owned a C and D. they commented that there was no perceptable tone difference. If I remember he sold the C because he like the unfinished neck better - but of course that is prefernce.
Yeha those burgandy and maple Cs looked great.
Also soemthing to note tis that the Ric site sayd the body of the C is a hardwood not Maple. Of course most are maple if not all. They did this incase any Walnut bodies were not suitable for a transparent tung oil finish. So if they got an unly D they would paint it and make it a C...

Very few 650D owners wanted to spend up to $300 more for a 650C that sounds not one bit better. You can beat on a 650D and touch up the finish fairly easily yourself. I suspect few people wanted the 650C at hundreds more, unless jetglo was their addiction. That may change since other colors are now available on the 650C. The 650D is really the best from a practical viewpoint.
Maybe the Jetglo color scared some people off. The guy that said there were satanic messages encoded into rock music that could be decoded by playing the recording backwards also said something about black electric guitars used by rock stars as being demonically possessed. Of course, we know that's not true. I own a Jetglo 4004L, and it hasn't affected me........affected me.........affected me..........affected me..........affected me...........affected me.........affected me..........
