Elderly Instruments and Daves Guitar Shop are not only two of the best mail order dealers in the Midwest, they are also true full service mucic stores. Unlike some well known Internet driven dealers, these companies have published telephone numbers that you can call to ask questons and place orders; real store fronts (not just a room with a computer and some gear located in an old multi story brick warehouse/factory/office building) and on site - full time service departments.

Elderly has quite a bit more than just a store "front". I lived in MI for a while and routinely ran over to Lansing just for a visit. I've purchased two guitars, a bouzuki and a sitar there as well as strings and cd's. They have an extensive collection of less-traditional instruments and the folks there are great.

I agree, Gary. Elderly is everything a music store should be... A business that operates from a facility that is clearly a music store in every respect, has a published telephone number, open at least eight hours a day and Saturdays, has everything you mentioned and more. In other words, a legitimate full service music retailer. Not a boiler room operation, run by someone with a little marketing savey, a digital camera, a computer and a nice looking web site. You would think a low overhead Internet driven operation would pass along the benefit of its reduced operating costs to its customers, but when compared to most "on line" full service music merchants, there does not seem to be much of a cost difference.

The C-64 is a gorgeous bass! And the pickgaurd is perfect! Now if they would only issue a 'normal headstock' model....
I'm wondering about a small detail on the tailpiece: I don't see the two extra screws. Look at the closeup on Garry's Elderly link. Did they actually change the type of metal for this model? They really nailed this one!

Gary: It would seem that you could get everything at Elderly. So where did you buy the incense then?

Peter - you have to go around the corner to the headshop to get the incense where you can also get your peppermints.

I'd guess this is due to the greater purchasing power, and therefore greater wholesale discounts, accorded to bigger dealers in general.

All Rickenbacker dealers pay exactly the same price for our goods, whether it's Guitar Center or Mom & Pop's Music Emporium. There are no extra discounts, rebates, or other allowances provided.

This is a policy I've always felt very strongly about, since it levels the playing field, and one we've held onto for many years now.
