Funny, but does this look kind of familiar?

I had one for a while. It's a pretty well made instrument. Excellent fit and finish, plays nice.

It didn't really have any character, though. It's just another generic active bass.

I had a schecter C5 it was really nice ... nice 35" scale neck low action very pretty ... but when I played with a band it did not cut through at all except for a boomy undefined low end ... the mids got lost as did the dinky high end ...

pretty much every active bass with a 2 band preamp sucks in my opinion ... if you want to go active go with a 3 band preamp ... or better yet go passive ...

Hmmm, that thing looks gorgeous though . . . I wonder if it would be worth it to buy it and then switch out the preamp . . . or yeah, just go passive, considering that, without a pickguard, it needs the removable panel on the back anyway.

I'm suprised lately to see so many cheap guitars with fancy carved tops, binding, premium hardware, and great workmanship, real values in my opinion. Or, are the more familiar names just marked up that much? It just tells you that US labor costs are really high.

The problem I can't explain is that if you play a Carvin, or Schecter, or Ibanez, and while they look fantastic, they just sound sterile and feel lifeless.

Schecters are made in Korea I think ... my schecter had a noisy pot ...

active electronics can give you that result ... musicman and alembic do a better job but they still don't have a good growl ...
