I think i've already mentioned it somewhere... saw a performance on TV in early 90s, think it was from the 80s. The announcement sounded like, "some bands which were popular in the 60s are still performing at the clubs and have moderate success, the Searchers, still run by a founder member Mike Pender, among them". (strangely enough, they didn't even mention the band was from UK, so in the context of some US bands also shown, i thought they were Americans). The performance itself was of course Love Potion #9, think it was MPS BTW, albeit i cannot remember the faces of anyone but him, the version was pretty much the same as MPS' version on "That was then, this is now". Seems like it was an open air performance, as far as i remember, albeit might be a club since i can clearly remember some strange brick wall. Bad quality video, black&white as far as i remember although i might be mistaken.
So does anybody have any ideas where and when it could have been made?

Do you know guys how many videos of the Searchers are there, both "legal" and "bootlegs", from TV programs or maybe full concerts on video? I realize this might have been discussed before since i started reading the forum only mid-2003 and didn't follow every thread, so if that's the case, could you kindly tell me in which thread it was discussed?

I have a few that I have pulled off Limewire file-sharing (I know, very naughty of me), including one brilliant totally live clip of the Searchers with Black Jake still on bass doing "Don't Throw Your Love Away" that I assume to be from one of the NME Pollwinners concerts, so there are things floating around out there.

The other clips I found on Limewire are "High Heel Sneakers" from Shindig, "Needles" from Ed Sullivan, a live concert film of "Room" which looks to be from the early 80's with MP & the boys wearing the black suits & playing Aria guitars, "WHTDTTR" from the Epstein-hosted episode of Hullabaloo, a rockin' live version of "Sweets" with Johnny Blunt on drums from Beat Club in '66, a lovely color promo film of "Sugar & Spice" with Jackson which looks to have been shot at EMI, one from the early 70's of them miming to the original track of "LP#9" that seems to have been nicked from someone's karaoke video, & another lip-synched "LP#9" from the 60's where Chris keeps hitting the cymbals & cracking the band up...I know there are more out there, as they appeared on scads of TV shows in the 60's. My favorite ones are live as opposed to lip-synched.

It would seem your best bet is to search out bootleg sources & compile your own...some sources allow you to request custom compilations, like this gentleman: http://members.aol.com/terrortv/terrortvmusic.html

Poke around on the internet & see what you come up with. Or perhaps some nice person on this list will make you a copy of the goodies from their vault...if they do please give me a shout off-list <g>

Only official video release as far as I know was of a concert at the Hull City Hall in 1993, ironically where they are playing tonight 18/12.

It was a edited version of a live concert but received very limited distribution, I suspect guy who commissioned it lost a bit of money on the venture.


They do have the odd video clip on numerous sixties type video packages.

Of course a number of fans will have their own compilations no doubt.

One video was produced of one of the appreciation society conventions, first one I believe TV will correct me on that, but not a commercial release.

Will check your sources Buddy when i have more spare time (and let you know if i find something interesting Still, i have no idea where the one i was referring to was taken from (no suits there i'm sure, and i'm also sure it wasn't a figment of my imagination, otherwise i wouldn't have recognized Mike Pender immediately when i've seen their photos for the first time some 5 years ago!)

There's a series of Ed Sullivan compilations out in the U.S, and I think "Needles" may be on one [ they only did the one appearance]. You'll do better with "Shindig" shows. They must have been on 4-5 times [ or taped them at one time and dribbled them out] I remember they lip synched "High Heel" Sneakers" on one of those. They did the one "Hullabaloo" already mentioned. Those shows [or bits and pieces are coming out one at a time]. I saw them do "When You Walk in the Room" on the "Steve Allen" Show, but have never seen any of his shows put on disc. There was a performance on a show I can't recollect where they did "Have You Ever Loved Somebody" [only time I saw Blunt], and a "Solid Gold" where they lip synched "LP9", and Nina Blackwell interviewed John briefly. If you can find tapes or DVDs of those shows, or compilations of the acts from various episodes, you may get lucky.

BTW, found a couple of clips at youtube, the first one is nothing spectacular (IMHO) - lipsynch to Sugar & Spice... but the other one might be live (albeit i'm not sure of it), and lots of fun...
