They are pretty large in diameter, could be some overlap.

Why not?
You could turn it all the way up to 68 or something like that.

I know a while back, POTR had a used bass with gold guards and TV knobs. The knobs all hit each other when you tried to move them. Chirs said at the time, to do it right, the pods would all have to move. If you could get a custom pick guard made, it would work (I think).

I tried the TV knobs on my v63 and they would hit each other as they rotated. But Dave is right, a custom guard could be made to accomodate them.

I've got the TV knobs on my 4000, but there definitely is NOT enough room on a 4001. I have tried to stack them vertically so you could still turn them, but it look awful.
I have an extra (non-vintage) knob if anyone needs one (I got a set of 4 & broke one & used 2).

It is a simple thing for a luthier or somebody like Pickguardian to make a new pickguard with the pot holes moved apart slightly to accommodate the knobs. Seems like oven knobs on a white guard would look very strange, anyway, so a gold guard is in order.

Takes a half-hour to remove the old guard, a #2 Phillips screwdriver, socket or small Crescent wrench, pair of pliers.

Same thing installing the new one.

I saw an old pic of Lemmy with one of his mapleglo 4001s basses and it had some TV knobs and stove knobs on it.

Looked pretty cool, actually.

yeah... that's what I was afraid of... and my girlfriend would complain anyway (she doesn't like gold AND tv knobs... sigh)... I guess it's just one more reason to buy a 4000! X )

Thanks Scott... I gotta find that pic!
