If I plug straight into the clean channel on my trem and drive that with an overdrive pedal, will it 'hurt' the amp in anyway? Such as blow the input stage or whatever?
cheers

No it won't hurt anything in the amp to do this.
I have a Mesa Dual Rectifier, which is similar to your tremoverb, and I've noticed that if the pedals go through the effects loop instead of going into the input, it sounds better. When plugging direct into the input, it seems that the high end gets lost quite easily on these amps much more so than when using other amps like a Fender or Marshall.

Thanks for that info. My mind is a little more at ease.

As a general rule of thumb, most time-based and modulation effects sound better in the effects loop, while overdrives, distortions, and filters sound better plugged right in. Of course, it's all subjective...

I'd agree with most amps John, but not the rectifier series of Mesa Boogies. If you stick a pedal on the input, even a tuner, it loads the thing down to where all your high end is lost. Must be why they provided an effects loop.
