Wishing everyone here a very MERRY CHRISTMAS and/or Happy Chanukah.

This was my first year here on this board and I wish I could repay the gift of knowledge (and sometimes laughter) that I have received reading all your posts! This is a very cool place to be!

My long awaited Rickenbacker gift was realized yesterday morning. My wife bought me a new 4003 Monty! She is my second RIC and it is just SO sweet! My CS was a gift from my wife back in 1995 and now she has a sister!

MY other new addition, my third Ric is SORT of a gift. Thanks to my catching a SEVERE case of GAS from reading this board, my 26 year wait for a 1979 4001FL MG has come to an end. I spotted it on line at Bass Northwest and my palms started sweating.

I put on my best "please dear" face and presented the print out to the "boss"....Being married for 24 years, you KNOW when you are on thin ice. (Keep in mind, the 4003 was still under wraps and didn't even hit the Visa bill yet, and not to mention, she bought me a 5 string Alembic for Father's Day which DID hit the Visa bill and still resides there to remind her)! Well, she didn't say NO, but she didn't say YES either! I just got that "LOOK".

To make a long story short, here she is, though I it arrived about a month ago, the Mrs. nabbed it from the UPS guy and told me that since it was SO close to Christmas, I'd have to wait so she wrapped it and stashed it away until yesterday!

So, it looks like my bass "collection" is complete, that is until my Visa bill gets back into the single digits or Mr. Hall and friends comes out with a V63-V68 MG, I'm safe!

THANKS Everyone,

I knew years ago she was a keeper!

It's her birthday on the 29th, I gotta come up with something good!

Chris, thanks for the compliments, I can't take the credit though, the wife does the tree and my kids handle the trains at Christmas. The old Lionel's come out to play once a year at this time of year. This year though, the kids received the POLAR EXPRESS train set so the 1940-1950's vintage got the year off.

I just spent some time playing with the two basses. What a difference in sound! I LOVE the neck on the 4001, not to mention the fretless sound, but the 4003 has a much better and LOUDER sound! The 4001 has a thinner neck than the 4003, but the 4003 is a winner as far as the sound goes!

Are the new high gains that much stronger than the old ones or does that cutting out that cap make that much difference?

Take the .0047 cap out of the 79 and it will wake up, if you don't know what I am talking about I can post a picture and of course others will join in.

Great set you have there!!!!

Dave,

I'd appreciate it if you have the picture, that would be great! THANK YOU!

Is a 25 watt iron too hot? I've never worked on a guitar before, though I do know how to solder, can I over heat any of the components?

Thanks again.
