Ever seen one? I'm thinking of having one made up but I'd sure like to see one first. BTW, what's the deal with moving the pickup to the current position anyways? I really can't tell a differance in the tone. It sure does look cool in the half inch spot though!

I did up my 4003 MB with a V63 guard, And I moved the neck pick up to the 1/2" spacing too. I think it sounds great. If I get one of those new 4003's with the walnut wings, I'll do the same again.

I really want to see a V63 guard with the one inch spacing. I don't want to cut on the bass if I don't have to. Did it take much to move the pickup there?

I had to route out just a little bit in the corners near the neck to accomodate the 1/2" spacing on my 4003FL. Here is the pickguard with the 1/2"spacing, but you could get one made with the 1" spacing.

Jeff,

That looks great with the Toaster in the rear spot! How does it sound? Ever do that on a fretted bass?

To route it I drilled two holes to create the round corners and then I chiseled the walls; the wood was quite soft so it went very easily and smoothly.

The toaster has a nice growl in that position making the fretless sound more midrangy. The hi-gains were very dark sounding on this fretless.

I have two fretted basses with toasters sort of in or near that position, my 4005WB and my 4004Cii.

The surround came off of ebay back in March, it replaced the original hi-gain surround a few months ago.

So that's your bass on the hipshot site, then?
